A Busy Weekend on the Campaign Trail

Good evening District 27. It has been a busy weekend from attending the homecoming parade in Kadoka on Friday, to attending the Hog Roast and Dance for the Long Valley Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, to attending the reservation-wide mass at Holy Rosary Parish north of Pine Ridge on the campus of Maȟpíya Lúta (formerly Red Cloud Indian School, Inc.) today.

After celebrating the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (technically celebrated on October 7th), I met several voters after mass over food and fellowship in Eben Hall on the campus. The hospitality at Holy Rosary Mission was exceptional. The members of this parish community did a great job hosting the reservation-wide mass. Fr. Ron Seminara, SJ, from Our Lady of Sorrows in Kyle, celebrated the mass with several other Jesuit priests attending.

After the luncheon, I drove to Red Shirt to meet Reverend Deacon Twilla R. Two Bulls, Christ Episcopal Church of Red Shirt Table, and a local community leader. Because of her invitation, I was able to place my last jumbo sign in the far reaches of the reservation (about a 95-mile drive one-way from Martin by way of Red Shirt Table and Cuny Table) located in northwestern Oglala-Lakota County. I had one sign remaining that was used in the Kadoka parade. I wanted to strategically locate it in an area that would be seen by a lot of traffic along BIA Route 41 which crosses the Cheyenne River and becomes SD Highway 40 on the opposite side before it connects with the Heartland Expressway (SD Highway 79) at Hermosa. Deacon Two Bulls knew the perfect spot for it.

After I got my sign-up, I met some of the voters from the Red Shirt area who were enthusiastic to meet me. I was able to get some additional campaign literature into the hands of influential leaders within the Red Shirt community. I then made the trek back to Martin and got home around 6:00 PM. I unloaded the vehicle and then loaded it up with yard signs to begin distribution this week.

If you are in the Martin area and would like to host one of my yard signs, please let me know as I will be placing yard signs out this week. I would be happy to put one up for you. NOTE: All signs (jumbo and yard signs) will be picked up by me immediately after the election. Please be patient with me as I will have a lot of signs to pick up across the district which is the size of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined. Enjoy the week. God bless.
