A Necktie and a Bible

Good afternoon District 27. In an earlier blog post from April, I mentioned that I had the opportunity to visit The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The museum is the former Texas School Book Depository building, which chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. JFK's famous inaugural address words, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,” continue to resonate with me today. While at the museum, I was able to stop at the gift shop where I picked out a necktie that I plan to wear at my swearing-in ceremony if elected your state senator. The necktie has the Pledge of Allegiance on it. It will serve as a reminder that our country is undergirded by the founding principle that we are “one nation under God” and that the Divine Creator alone is the one that provides us with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Finally, I also share with you the Bible I will use when taking the oath of office. This Bible was given to me by my Pastor, the Reverend Fr. Tyler Dennis, upon my graduation in April 2022 from the Augustine Institute through its Graduate School of Theology Distance Education program. Fr. Tyler was the person who encouraged me to obtain a Master of Sacred Theology (MST). He was at my side throughout my 2 ½ years of study. He served not only as a mentor and advisor but also as my confessor. Moreover, he provided me with great spiritual direction and wisdom when I needed it. During his priestly ministry here in Martin, he saw the high points and low points of my life and was there through it all - a genuine pastor who took care of his flock.

Consequently, I am deeply rooted in my faith as a result of obtaining this degree from the Augustine Institute which provided a solid Catholic foundation that is based on the authentic (orthodox) teachings of the Church. Hence, if I am elected to the state legislature, all of my decisions will be rooted in the steep traditions of my faith. My decisions will not be compromised or tainted by the post-modern secular winds of the time. As I stated earlier, we are “one nation under God.” We are not “one nation under special interests, corporate lobbyists, or elitists.” I will strive to maintain a high level of integrity, honesty, and transparency upon taking the oath of office. Not only is this in your best interest, but also a requirement of me from God above. Enjoy your Sunday. God bless.
