Good evening District 27. There are now less than 20 days until the November 5th General Election. Thus far, everything is going like clockwork. I got up at the crack of dawn to do some sign-waving at the US Highway 18 approach leading up to Martin Grade School. I brought my sign and wished the parents, care providers, teachers, staff, and students a good morning and hope the students have a great day at school. There were many familiar faces from within the community that I recognized as the children were being dropped off at the school. I waved to faculty members, the superintendent, the bus driver, and the kids riding on the buses. It was all in good fun. I hope I jump-started some people’s day by putting a smile on their faces. I even had two voters stop by Lou’s Coffee Shop who offered to buy me a cup of hot tea and coffee in the brisk morning air. A special thank you for being so thoughtful goes out to them.
After the sign waving, I met with a few local voters and was able to have lunch with them. I relish these conversations that I had today. The voters have helped me be a more informed candidate. I will never forget these conversations that I have had. It truly is the best part of being on the campaign trail – listening to what people say about various current events. I also had an opportunity to collect a last-minute campaign contribution that will go toward the final push to get me across the finish line.
After lunch, I went to another voter’s home to get another yard sign up in a neighborhood that did not have any. I pretty much have now the City of Martin covered with my yard signs. You can’t drive around without seeing one. If you would like one, please reach out to me and I will be happy to put one up for you.
Finally, in the afternoon, I volunteered to assist in the grassroots effort of sending text messages to voters in Minnehaha and Pennington County regarding Voting No on Referred Law 21. It was engaging to see how voters respond to this hot-button issue on the November ballot. There was a steady flow of responses coming in from voters who knew very little about the issue and I was there to inform them as to why they ought to vote no on RL21.
Finally, at 4:30 PM, I walked up to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for an “hour of power” to recharge my spiritual batteries for the week. After spending time in prayer, I then went back home and raked up the fallen leaves and pods around my Chinese elm tree. The wind is pushing them off and the backyard is cluttered with them. Though it was getting dark out, I thought I would get a head start before tonight’s anticipated rain showers. Finally, I called one of my volunteers in Oglala who is helping me on the western side of the Pine Ridge Reservation to gain support for my campaign. He is a critical link in the success of this campaign.
As one can see, it was another busy day on the campaign trail and I am working hard to earn your vote. It won’t be long before you, the voters, decide who your next state senator will be. I look forward to meeting more voters as the clock counts down to the general election. I would be humbled and honored to earn your vote on November 5th. God bless.
