Good evening District 27. Today I received my official certification of nomination signed by the Governor of South Dakota and the Secretary of State as the chosen nominee of the Republican Party for the office of State Senator for Legislative District 27. On this day, I reflect on the cold winter days of the first two weeks in January when I first began collecting 115 signatures from Republican registered voters. I only needed to collect 50 signatures, but I wanted confirmation from the people across the district who early on believed in my campaign for the state senate.
I spent over three months during the summer of 2023 driving 1115 miles to various parts of the district listening to the voters before I made my decision to run for office on October 4, 2023. It was not a decision I took lightly knowing the sacrifice I was to make for the people of District 27. Running for office is not for the faint of heart. I learned early on that politics is dirty. I met many wonderful people throughout this campaign. I have been blessed to hear your personal stories which has motivated me to move forward. As the campaign wanes through the dog days of summer, in 65 days early voting begins and the voters of this state will be bombarded with political ads unlike any time in our state’s political history. It is my hope that amongst all the political rhetoric, you will remember the conversations I had with you in the early days of this campaign and recall the many blog posts you have read about my personal journey.
There are so many other things that I could be doing right now (spending time with my family, traveling, camping, performing maintenance on my home, finishing my master’s in elementary education, teaching religious education, and so much more). However, this is a divine calling from Above. I am not running for office for political gain; I am running for you – the voters of District 27. In a world filled with noise, my hope for you when going to the polls to vote is that you pause and reflect that there are still people who have their heart in the right place and only want what’s best for our state and our country. I am that candidate.
In the coming weeks and months, It is my hope to unite our voices by drawing from a coalition of voters from all demographics and all party affiliations. It is my hope that you will be able to come to your own conclusion that I am the candidate of integrity, honesty, and transparency. It is my hope that I can earn your vote and I want to assure you that I will not take your vote for granted. I will always have your back District 27 because at the end of the day, I am fighting for you. God bless.
