Good evening District 27. I just got home after having a soft-serve ice cream cone from the local DQ Bar and Grill. I needed to put out the “fire” in my stomach. Earlier this evening, I attended the Bennett County High School Chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) annual chili cook-off at the Martin VFD fire hall. There was a lot of chili to taste and my stomach is now thanking me for feeding it some hot spicy chili. The local FFA Chapter did a great job hosting the event. While there, I was also able to put in my order for a fruit box to be delivered to my home between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have ordered from them in the past and the fruit is exceptional. I highly recommend placing an order before the November 14th cut-off date. Click on the QR code (see posted photo) or go to http://qrto.org/dGnamZ to place your order and use one of the FFA members’ student codes (see posted photo). All funds raised go back to support the local student chapter of FFA.
These FFA students are the future leaders of tomorrow. The chili cook-off is a great way for these teenagers to be engaged and actively involved in their local community. I am proud of these students for what they are doing in our community. As a former substitute teacher in the Bennett County School District, I have taught many of these students and can attest to their character and work ethic. Some of these students will go on to be future Ag producers and others will work in Ag-related industries. They will need a state senator who has had the experience of growing up on a small family farm and who will serve as an advocate for local Ag producers. The South Dakota state legislature continues to have only a handful of legislators who have grown up or served in an Ag-related industry. I will be a voice for our local family-operated farmers and ranchers if elected to the state senate. Have a great weekend. God bless.
