Good morning District 27. Today – the 3rd Saturday of October – is the opening day of pheasant hunting season in South Dakota. Hunting is part of our rich cultural heritage. As the harvest has begun, I wish all those hunters visiting the area to enjoy our great outdoors and the fall festivities planned in our rural communities.
The photo I posted is a treasured oil painting that my brother Vince painted on the back of a Kent feed sack. This gem of a painting is by far, his best work, which dates back to the early 1980s. We almost lost this painting several years ago when he sold it to a pawn shop for $10 and luckily I was able to track it down before it was lost forever. Today, it continues to hang in my mom’s home and serves as a reminder of the many pheasants we would see fly out of our corn fields during the fall harvest season.
If elected your state senator, I will fight to preserve our rich cultural heritage and agricultural roots. I will support legislation that preserves and sustains the ecological habitat for fish and wildlife while also advocating and protecting the property rights of our landowners and Ag producers. I will also support, protect, and safeguard your Second Amendment right to bear arms in order to protect and defend you and your family from harm. Enjoy hunting our state bird this weekend. God bless.
